School Mission Statement

McKinley Elementary School’s mission is to provide all students with a rigorous instructional program that is aligned with the California State Standards, so that all students will reach their fullest academic potential, and successfully progress to middle school.

Our vision is to administer: best practices, provide equitable teaching strategies, on-going professional development, frontload all academic vocabulary, language and content California State Standards and continually commit to closing the racial achievement gap. We will frequently progress monitor our students by: AIMSweb implementation, on going District wide Math, Language Arts and Writing Assessments, and state adopted core curriculum materials. Interventions will be matched to students’ needs, while continuing to implement RtI (Response to Intervention). Our vision is to promote all students onto middle school prepared to succeed.

Success Stories:

• In the 2008-2009 school year, Cher Mott won Principal of the Year from the district for the accelerated learning of black and brown students.
• In the 2009-2010, McKinley was the only school in the district to meet/exceed AYP and API goals. McKinley has gone up 59 points in 2 years
• Maintains the district's only student data-wall that monitors every student's progress.
• Every 5th grader in the school plays an instrument.
