James Monroe Elementary is committed to building an inclusive school community. Our mission is to educate our students so they can achieve and demonstrate academic excellence. We will achieve Monroe's Mission objectives by providing our students with a nurturing, safe, and secure environment, while providing a California Standards based curriculum and using culturally relevant teaching strategies with our students. We capitalize on the rich cultural heritage of our students, viewing students through the lens of equity to drive individualized instruction and sustain high expectations for all students.

Success Stories:
- Mrs. Gallagher, a 5th grade teacher, has just received 6 professional microscopes for her 5th graders through DonorsChoose--around $1000.00
- In the fall, Elaine Yee, a 2nd grade teacher, received a "bundle of classroom supplies" around $500 through DonorsChoose
- In the fall, Northface of San Leandro donated well over $2000 worth of school supplies and backpacks for our students
- Teachers Bonanno and Yeung, 3rd grade, both received the Retired Teachers Association's grant which paid for their classrooms Scholastic News subscription. ($250.00)
- Monroe's PTO has agreed to purchase Ladibug Doc Camera and projectors for every teacher at our school (around $15,000.00)
- Anna Yeung received a world and USA map through DonorsChoose worth approximately $300.00.
- Amy Voge and Cheri Harvey received $500 donations for Special Education materials from the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation.
